Carpool is a new video game studio based both in Paris and Montpellier, with a passion for creating the most innovative and exciting multiplayer games. Created by industry veterans and gathering a human-sized talented team from diverse background and culture, our team is all about bringing life to our unique ideas and focus on AAA execution.


We are thrilling to create games that are fun, challenging, full of pop culture references and willing to bring all players the best engaging and compelling experience possible. Our first project is a brand-new hybrid genre mixing strategy and fast paced action into a PvP experience. But more than a game, our objective is to create a new IP with transmedia opportunities to expand our narrative and go beyond the video game market.

Main responsibilities

Deliver and integrate complex high quality UI assets, features and experiences from an ergonomic, aesthetic and technical perspective within the constraints of our game.


Reporting to the Creative Director, you:

  • Design and integrate user interface systems, menus and GUIs into the game in close collaboration with designers and programmers
  • Analyse and determine if current UI functionalities in the game meet the project’s requirements and is consistent with project Art Direction
  • Implement, optimise and verify (utilising user testing), the functionality and usability of features on different PC or Console platform
  • Develop tools and modules within the game engine to support the creation of the user interface
  • Work as a key part of an agile development team, and assist the other lead with planning and review of features and mentoring less experienced programmers
  • Implement innovative solutions to feature requests, taking into account performance, maintability and appropriate resource usage
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyse technical constraints and establish solutions
  • Demonstrate an understanding of load and feature testing , write test code, and develop test frameworks and processes
  • Stay up-to-date with state-of-the-art technology and promote its use within the studio
  • Contribute to and on occasion lead cross-studio collaboration communications in conjunction with the Lead Gameplay Programmer
  • Establish and maintain contact with their counterparts within the studio, share knowledge and best practices, and put those learnings to use on their projects

Job requirements

Skills and Knowledge

  • Great communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent graphic design skills (e.g. design, layout, typography etc.)
  • Experience with gameplay, UI concepts, and implementing game menus and HUDs
  • Knowledge of UI frameworks such as Qt or imgui a plus
  • Excellent C/C++ programming skills, with excellent knowledge of object oriented development including design patterns and UML
  • Extensive experience working with a large game codebase, and it's modules, middleware and associated pipeline
  • Significant knowledge of common algorithms, data structures and patterns, data management software ( Perforce ) and their application
  • Proven ability to debug defects of a reasonable complexity
  • Expert knowledge of industry standard 2D graphics applications (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of industry game engines ( preferably Unreal engine 5 ), design toolsets and production pipelines


Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in art or equivalent experience
  • Has shipped at least 1 game as a UI Artist
  • Experience with profiling tools
  • Experience using Unreal 4 or 5 is essential
